Recently seen in the Harry Potter films, Alnwick Castle is a medieval fortress described by some as the 'Windsor of the North'.
First built in the 1090's Alnwick Castle is England's second largest inhabited Castle and has been the home of the Earls and Dukes of Northumberland since 1309.
It really is vast and in no way a ruin. This is a vibrant living building which is definitely on the must see list of castles in England. Large imposing curtain walls are in good condition and the keep still has structural integrity.
Alnwick recently gained a legion of fans when the castle was chosen as a location for Hogwarts school in the first two Harry Potter movies. Atmospheric walls and stunning vistas make Alnwick castle a wonderful location for filming.
One of the great medieval castles of England.
