Bamburgh
NE69 7DF
A towering 11th century Norman stronghold on the coast of Northumberland.
Famously one of the oldest castle sites in England and the first castle in the country to lose a siege because of the attackers use of gunfire, Bamburgh is more romantic than military in nature.
Sir Thomas Mallory the fifteenth century author of the great Arthurian epic "Le Morte D'Arthur" used Bamburgh Castle as the template for Sir Lancelot's home castle.
One of the great medieval castles of England.
