These days nothing can be seen of the castle that once stood in the middle of banbury to the north of the marketplace.

Banbury Castle was built in the year 1135AD and had a long history of enlargement until The English Civil War when Banbury served as a Royalist stronghold. The second of two sieges ended on April 27th 1646 when the royalists surrendered.

Following the war the castle was largely demolished. And nothing now remains of it.

One of the great medieval castles of England.
