A great name for a castle (it is pronounced 'chumley') and a fantastic garden too.

The Cholmondeley family have lived on the site of the present Cholmondeley Castle since 1200 although the current mock gothic castle, dates from 1801.

So although the castle itself isn't ancient, the gardens are beautiful and make this one of the most interesting castles of england.

Interesting historical fact we picked up from the locals was that in 1940 Cholmondeley Castle was used as a base for Czechoslovak servicemen evacuating to England after the fall of France.

One of the great medieval castles of England.
