Farnham

GU9 0AG

Farnham Castle was the home of the powerful Bishops of Winchester for over 900 years. Farnham is one of the oldest continually inhabited buildings in the south of England. There was probably a Norman Motte and Bailey fort here built soon after the invasion of 1066.

In 1138 Bishop henry begins a stone building. It was this castle that was occupied by Prince Louis of France in 1216. Later in the civil war the northeast wall is blown up, but since then Farnham Castle has had a peaceful existence.

Now open to visitors all year round, you can see a vast range of architectural styles and great displays that bring the castles' history to life.

One of the great medieval castles of England.
