The Prideaux family were recorded as Lords of Prideaux Castle at Luxulyan in Cornwall at the time of the Norman Conquest. Despite the french sounding name, Historians are sure this was a saxon family who on later francisized their after the norman invasion.

Prideaux Castle has its roots as an iron age hill fort. Of the castle of medieval times just three ramparts survive to this day.

Prideaux Castle sits atop a 400 foot high conical hill with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The walls themselves are now low earthen mounds. However it is in private hands and visitors should book in advance
