Without doubt, one of England's most beautiful castles, Raby was first built in the mid 14th century on the site of an earlier fortified manor house. Lord Barnard's family have owned Raby castle since 1626. Raby is now the home of the 11th Lord Barnard.

We loved the art on display and felt the whole castle retained a certain homey feel despite the great walls. The story of the Nevills, the original owners is definitely worth teasing out from the guides.

Surrounding Raby Castle you will find a 200 acre Deer Park, walled gardens and a Carriage Museum and Tea Room in the old stables.
