Just a few miles from Loswithiel in Cornwall, Restormel Castle boasts a grand cicular keep atop a high mound overlooking the River Fowey. There is a full moat and lovely views out over the countryside.

Home to the Black Prince, Restormel castle was a powerful local centre of government in its heyday.

The castle fell into disrepair, but was refortified during the civil war and last saw action on 21 August 1644 when Cromwell's forces captured Restormel.

There is a car park and an entrance fee to visit the castle. Choose a sunny day and bring a picnic to Restormel Castle.
