Outside Winchcombe, off the B4632 Sudeley Castle offers the visitor superb interiors, artworks by Rubens, Van Dyke and Turner, dramatic ruined walls and wonderful landscaped gardens.
The estate survived the Norman invasion intact and the Manor house grew into a castle as the Boteler family grew in power and prestige.
In the 13th Century ownership passed to the crown and Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn visit here in 1532. Henry's daughter Elizabeth I also visited Sudeley on three separate occassions. The robe worn by Elizabeth at her christening is on display in the Castle.
Like so many english castles Sudeley was slighted after the Civil War.
One of the great medieval castles of England.
