The few details we do know about Tong Castle are as follows. The castle was built in the 12th century and belonged to Roger de Montgomery after the Norman Conquest.

Sadly, little else is known about Tong Castle in Shropshire.

Records say ownership of Tong Castle passed through families named as de Belmeis , la Zouche, Pembrugge, Vernon, Pierrepoint, and finally Durant.

It was George Durrant who demolished the ruined castle in 1765 and built a country house in its place. This itself was just a ruin from 1908 onwards and was eventually demolished in 1954.

All that remains are Capability Brown's gates, although not in situ. These were moved to Marston Road, Blakenhall in 1977.

The site of Tong Castle is by the village pond in Tong, Shropshire just east of Telford where the A41 and M54 cross.

Since there are no visible remains on site we do not reccomend Tong Caste as suitable for making a visit.
