Wollaston Castle

Wollaston Castle was built in 1068(?) AD

An early stone castle about which very little is known.

In the centre of the village of Wollaston (near Northampton) stands Beacon Hill, a conical mound over 6m high with a flat summit about 25m in diameter. This is all that remains of this historical mystery. Excavations revealed that the castle did not stand for long, probably being destroyed soon after it was built.
