Infamous castle in York is a fascinating site with a grizzly past.

Clifford's tower stands in ruins today but was once the centre of York's castle. Infamous for the pogrom of 1189 when 150 innocent Jews died, York castle is an appropriately austere ruin.

The other end of the site now holds an excellent local history museum.

A very nice exhibit is Kirkgate, a reconstruction of a nineteenth century street, combining real shop fittings and stock with modern sound and light effects.
